Loving what you do is a requirement of high performance. You can’t make the commitment or sustain the effort necessary to be really good if you don’t love what you do. Professional service is too difficult and demands too much otherwise.

Now, nothing is perfect and everything has its plusses and minuses; ups and downs; goods and bads. So you won’t love everything. But the more you have of the good, the less the bad will affect you.

And it’s not uncommon for your “love it” factor to have some energy leaks that affect you negatively that are in your control. You need to take them on or they will suck the life out of you. Here are some common “love it” leaks that you can do something about:

• Have the difficult conversation you’ve been putting off.
• Face the difficult decision you’ve been putting off.
• Do the remaining items on your list that you’ve been putting off.
• Think about the big picture that you’ve been putting off.

When you put things off, they become an energy leak to your “love it” factor. Effectively what happens is that they are running in the background in your subconscious mind, stealing the precious energy and focus you should be dedicating elsewhere. They are a drag on your spirit and your emotions.

In the end, high performers don’t put things off. They get things done. They take on the things that others put off so they have the enthusiasm to do what they love. What conversations, decisions and moldy to-dos come to mind as you read this? Those are the culprits to take care of first. Prioritize them and commit to kicking them out of your life by THIS Friday. You’ll enjoy what you do more because you’ve stopped the leaks.
