Before the lessons of busy season fade, take 15 minutes and ask yourself three questions:
What worked? What did you, your team, or your firm do well that you want to repeat?
What didn’t? Where did you experience unnecessary stress, communication breakdowns, bottlenecks, or work that could have been handled differently?
What will you change? Choose one thing you can do before the next busy season that will make a meaningful difference.
Maybe it’s delegating earlier. Having a more intentional conversation with a team member. Setting clearer expectations. Developing someone who needed more support. Or finally addressing a process that everyone knows isn’t working.
Don’t try to fix everything at once. The goal isn’t to create another list of things to do. It’s to turn one lesson into one action.
Busy season will come around again.
The question is: Will you experience it the same way next time – or will you and your team be better prepared because of what you learned this time?
