A client needs something.
A return needs review.
A staff member has a question.
Someone is behind.
And suddenly, everything feels like it needs your attention right now. This is where leadership gets interesting, because when everything feels urgent, it’s easy to take over and become the bottleneck.
We answer every question.
We jump into every problem.
We take work back because it feels faster.
We make decisions for people who could probably make them themselves.
And we tell ourselves we’re helping.
But sometimes the best thing a leader can do is create clarity instead of adding more activity. Ask: What truly needs my attention, what can wait, and what can someone else own? What decision can I help someone think through rather than make for them?
Your team doesn’t necessarily need you to take over or even to have all the answers right now. They need to know what matters most, what they own, and that you trust them to do it. That is leadership under pressure. Only you can create clarity when things feel chaotic.
You’re not just getting through another deadline. You’re building a stronger team for the next one.
