After an intense tax deadline, it can be tempting to immediately move on to the next thing.

There are emails to catch up on. Projects that were pushed aside. Conversations that need to happen. And, of course, there’s always another deadline somewhere on the horizon.

But before you jump back in, give yourself permission to pause.

Rest isn’t wasted time. Neither is stepping away long enough to regain perspective. In fact, some of our best thinking happens when we aren’t actively trying to solve something.

Take a walk. Have the conversation you didn’t have time for during busy season. Spend time with the people who remind you there is more to life than your workload.

Then come back with a little more energy, and a clearer sense of what deserves your attention next.

You made it through the deadline. Now give yourself a chance to recover before you start running again.
