In last week’s message, I asked you to identify one thing you’ve been meaning to implement that would make you better and then I encouraged you to put it into practice. Since you’ve already been thinking about it, it would just be a matter of committing yourself to it. It was an impassioned plea for you to actually do it. Now here’s the question: did you? Did you actually take action? Did you do the very thing you identified as being worthwhile and valuable?
I’m afraid that if I asked for a show of hands, it would be a sorry showing. How could it be? You’ve already determined that the one thing you’re considering would make a difference, so why wouldn’t you? While there are any number of explanations, they all end in the same result—no reason and no action.
This is so important to you that I’m not ready to let it go. Here’s a way to think about it. As a professional, you make a tacit agreement with your firm and your clients that you will be the best professional you can be. You know that when you’re at your best, you’re really good and your clients depend on you to be your best. If for no other reason, that’s why you need to do the one thing that will make you better.
So this week, spelled T O D A Y, you have another opportunity to commit to your one thing. Take it on and begin enjoying the experience of being better: for yourself, your firm and your clients. Everyone is counting on you, so make your second chance count.
